William H. Ryan 1937 – 2020 BRUNSWICK – William Hanley Ryan died at home on Nov. 7, 2020 in Brunswick. He was born in White Plains, N.Y. his spouse and children before long relocated to the state of Washington in the Seattle/Puget Sound region. He attended St. Joseph College and the Lakeside College in Seattle for his elementary and secondary schooling, where he developed a lifelong passion for mastering, notably heritage, literature and philosophy. He attended the University of Washington, Santa Clara University and Seattle University, from which he received his B.A. and MBA degrees. He served as a naval officer during the Vietnam period in the 3rd and Seventh Fleets, and earned a prize medal for his essay “My Freedoms and My Responsibilities”. Soon after his military service, Bill managed both of those for-income and non-gain organizations in the Seattle region, which includes enterprises engaged in foreign trade, actual estate investments, charitable providing and manufacturing. He was recruited by the Town of Portland, Ore. as its ombudsman for business enterprise retention and economic advancement. On completion of this assignment, he relocated to Mount Vernon, Washington, exactly where he was the 1st appointed government director of the Port of Skagit County and then, for the upcoming ten years, government director of the Skagit Technique Cooperative, a non-earnings fisheries and environmental management consortium. In the mid 1990s he moved to New England, initially to Boston and then to Brunswick, when his wife was named director of the Bowdoin University Museum of Artwork. Monthly bill was active in economic and accounting administration for several organizations up and down the Maine Coast, in which he would have desired to commit his time on his sailboat “The Ivy Crown”. In retirement he volunteered at College or university Guild, giving correspondence programs in producing and poetry to incarcerated individuals, and with the Pals of Curtis Memorial Library. Monthly bill could make just about anything with his hands, and did, from drystone partitions, to a total residence, to sturdy and elegant parts of home furnishings. He would have beloved to consider his avocation for landscaping and gardening to a qualified degree. He was relaxed around horses, the two in the stalls and on their backs, had a sleek tennis backhand and a deep expertise of Irish historical past that was exceeded only by his delight in his ancestry. A discerning reader, writer (of fiction, non-fiction and posted poetry), and a passionate lover of new music from classical to jazz, his motivating credo was “Whatever is really worth accomplishing at all is well worth doing well”. He is survived by his wife, Katy Kline his small children, Leslie Ryan (David Anderson), Gigi Gilman (Tom), Wim Ryan (Catia), and Connor Ryan (Alyssa), stepchildren, Ethan Kline (Sarah) and Chloe Kline (Kareem Roustom) and eight grandchildren. He leaves several nieces and nephews, his sisters’ children and quite a few lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his moms and dads, Marion and William McKinley Ryan his sisters, Elaine and Kathleen and his very first spouse, Valerie, the mother of his young children.
