Texas Culture of CPAs Honors Top rated Accounting Educators
Dr. Marina Ruseva, CPA, assistant professor of accounting at Lamar University, and Michelle Avila, CPA, associate professor of accounting at Our Woman of the Lake University (OLLU), were lately named 2020 recipients of the Texas Culture of CPAs’ (TXCPA) Remarkable Accounting Educator Award.
The statewide award honors Texans who have shown excellence in educating and who have distinguished on their own by way of active assistance to the accounting occupation. Criteria for judging involve instructional innovation, scholar inspiration, the pursuit of discovering opportunities for pupils, involvement in university student and expert accounting organizations, and investigate achievements and publications.
Prior to becoming a member of Lamar College in 2019, Ruseva served as a research assistant and teacher at the College of Houston’s C.T. Bauer University of Company. From 2009 to 2014, she labored as a tax expert for Deloitte in Houston.
She is an avid researcher and her paper entitled “Executive Equity Compensation and Corporate Tax Conduct: Discovering the Job of Funds ETR Persistence” was awarded the 2020 Distinguished Paper award at the Federation of Small business Disciplines (FBD) annual convention.
Prior to signing up for OLLU in 2011, Avila labored as an accounting teacher at DeVry University from 2011-2012 and as a direct teacher at Becker Specialist Training from 2004-2011.
Very last yr, Avila began the OLLU Saints Accounting Club to endorse awareness of the accounting occupation and CPA license. She is also lively within Money Executives Intercontinental, TXCPA and TXCPA San Antonio.
