YSU Business Dean Betty Jo Licata announces retirement

Betty Jo Licata is retiring following 26½ decades as dean of Youngstown Condition University’s Williamson School of Enterprise Administration.

“Dr. Licata’s leadership of her college or university and throughout the campus and neighborhood has been nothing short of astounding,” reported Brien Smith, YSU provost and vice president for Educational Affairs. “Her accomplishments are several her legacy will be prevalent and extended-standing.”

President Jim Tressel added: “Dr. Licata elevated the Williamson School to new heights, recruiting proficient faculty, setting up strong partnerships and creating graduates who have absent on to management positions across the organization spectrum. She will be skipped we thank her and wish her effectively in retirement.”

Licata will retire Dec. 31, 2021. Smith said a nationwide lookup for a alternative will start quickly.

“It has been a privilege to provide YSU and the Williamson University of Small business Administration,” Licata claimed Wednesday in a letter to Smith and Tressel. “I am grateful for the possibility to have worked with so quite a few devoted specialists. Of class, it is working with our learners that provides the greatest joy, and I will truly pass up watching them grow and realize success.”

Right after earning a PhD in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Licata was associate dean and director of Graduate Courses at Ohio University and then dean of the Dahlkemper University of Organization Administration at Gannon College just before coming to YSU in 1995.

As dean of WCBA, she led the energy to acquire accreditation by AACSB Intercontinental, the world’s leading accrediting agency for small business educational institutions, and spearheaded setting up and building of the new Williamson Hall, a 110,000-square-foot developing showcasing condition-of-the-art company labs, a 200-seat auditorium, a conference heart and a sky-lit atrium and café.

Under Licata’s leadership, the Faculty proven the Heart for Nonprofit Leadership, the Entrepreneurship Center, Middle for Career Management, Student Expert services Middle, Company Leaders Program and Student Leadership Council.

The College expanded its award-successful Ohio Small Organization Growth Center, Export Guidance Community and Procurement Technological Aid Heart, as well as its World Understanding Experiences plan, Centre of Excellence in Intercontinental Small business and the Williamson Centre for Global Company. Licata also oversaw increased aid from donors, such as the Warren P. Williamson Jr. Family members, the Beeghly Fellows Endowment, Schwebel Spouse and children Fellows Endowment, Zoldan-Yampolsky Family members Government Fellows Plan, John Burgan Entrepreneurship Prize, Andrews Endowed Chair in Accounting and the Lariccia Household Endowed Professorships.

“It is the school and workers customers of the WCBA, who independently and collectively, type the heart of the WCBA,” stated Licata, noting that the College has hired much more than 25 faculty associates considering the fact that 2000. “Their dedication to our learners and their occupation drives them to excel in their teaching, study and support to YSU and their job.”

Licata has also garnered numerous awards, such as the Parker Henry Board Excellence Award from the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, the Dean of the Year Award from Beta Gamma Sigma, Advocate of the Yr Award from the Ohio Little Company Progress Facilities and the Bronze Leadership Award from Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley.

She has served as board chair of the Youngstown Business Incubator, Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber Athena Committee and Mercy Wellbeing-Youngstown. She has also remained energetic in AACSB and Beta Gamma Sigma.

“We have developed a Higher education of Enterprise that is fully commited to progressive programs that interact our pupils and impression the regional group, and I am confident the college and staff will continue on to propel the faculty forward,” she said.
